Bullet in ORP
Bullet in ORP
Has anyone used a straight through bullet muffler in their ORP? It should still be freer flowing than the cat and sound a little better than just an ORP. Hopefully sound would be the balance of the two sound wise, both volume and quality. Then again how much difference is there really between an ORP and High Flow cat....

Difference between a Bullet and an ORP would be negligable.
You would notice the difference between an ORP and hi-flow. I don't know how much though, I've never had a hi-flow cat on. Although I had to put 2 cats on my car to get it to pass through emissions vs a ORP, and it changed the pitch and tone dramatically. Thats on my emissions legal exhaust now.
With the ORP, it sounded like it was a long tube car, with a 40 series Flowmaster. With the cats on, it sounded like a stock manifold/y-pipe car with a cat and 40 series Flowmaster.

I had a custom 3" dual cat Y-pipe built for my AS&M headers, feeding a Mufflex 4" catback. For the track, since I run leaded fuel, I was dropping the flanged CarSound cats out inserting Borla XR-1 shorties. I thought the cats were actually louder than the Borlas.
kain,
with the ORP in it is louder but sloppier/raspier. There is no SOTP difference than with the 3" catco. I'm not saying that there isn't a gain with the ORP, but i just can't feel it.
Fred,
The XR1 shorty listed on borla's site is a header collector type muffler, i'm sure thats not what you meant. Which model exactly did you have?
I noticed that my cousins car with FLP/dual cats the cats vs his ORPs has a bigger effect than swapping the single cat on my car does. He does have a cam and different catback though. Maybe i just need a cheaper bullet than a borla, maybe they work too good
