please help identify this wire...

I went outside at lunch to test my fans following shoebox's directions of disconnect the connector (C100 I think he calls it).

When I was doing this, I notice that where the wiring heads back down the fender well near the PCM there is a single red wire with a connector on it, but it's not connected to anything. This single wire is very close to the two weather tight connectors on the fender well.

I don't have a picture handy, but this wire is on the PCM side of the harness rather than the battery side if you follow me.

Any ideas?

Oh, and I attempted to ground both the green and blue wires to the body and nothing happend with my fans. Did I do that wrong? I have not had a fan related SES light, but I was thinking I would install a manual fan switch and wanted to make sure the fans turned on properly. I have never heard them at all, but the car never seems to over heat.

Am I supposed to ground the PCM side of the connector or the battery side of the connector?

I had the key on, per his instructions in other posts.

If I'm not mistaken the gray wire thats not connected is the fuel pump priming/testing wire. When you put 12v to it, the fuel pump starts.

Grey on pre 1996 and red after that. It is the fuel pump prime wire.

Thank you for the info... I had heard that there was such a wire...

Hey shoebox (hoping you see this again),

Did I do something wrong on my fan test?

You ground the forward connector end, not the pcm side. You should not need the key ON on the 1996-1997s. The relays are constantly powered (not so on pre-1996). Use the ground terminal on the RH shock tower for convenience.
