building an engine, asking for some input...
this is what i intend to build.
383 compression ratio ?
lt4 heads
lt4 intake both ported
cam?
6 inch rods
1.6 rockers
52 mm tb
injectors?
fuel pump?
fuel pressure setting?
any info on power and what i need would be appreciated. i am planning on adding a supercharger or turbo later on so i want it to work with this. probbable a sts but any suggestions would be nice. thanks alot

Re: building an engine, asking for some input...
You need to decide now if you are going to add boost, and should do it at the time of the build simply for tuning ease and cost.
The parts needed for a boosted motor are different and more expensive...I think the procharger is the best headunit avalible, just don't set it up for blow-through like their kit is designed.

Re: building an engine, asking for some input...
no i am on a budget for real, i am going to set it up for boost and run it , i know it wont be that strong but ill be tapped out after doing the 383 and buy the lt4 heads and intake , blower cam and blower pistons
Re: building an engine, asking for some input...
Not nearly enough info to even start to answer your questions. What is your goal, what is your budget, etc. You talk about "building" a 383. Do you mean buy it or build it? How much can you do yourself? And so on.

Re: building an engine, asking for some input...
i can do everything except the machine work, and the tune. i am asking how to set it up, reccomended compresion ratio for a blower motor and things like that, i never built a blower motor before and what kind of cam to run with it. the goal is all i can get
Re: building an engine, asking for some input...
I would keep it a 355 for a blower motor (that's just me). Compression ratio will depend on how much boost you plan to run, which will be based on how much HP you want to make. So will injectors, fuel pump, throttle body, etc..
There's more to building a blower motor than there seems. Anyone can just slap on a blower, but doing it right takes a lot of time, money and research. Honestly it was above my head and budget... so I went the 383 NA route and will be adding a 200 shot once the rest of my drivetrain is tough enough.
If I were you I would go with an 11:1 383, fully port those heads and intake, get a custom cam, use 36 to 42 lb. injectors, and a 255lph pump. With all the complimenting bolt-ons you could be around the 450rwhp range. Then, for the occassional viper, Z06 or blown F-body you come up on... slap on the bottle and smack down 600hp only when you need it.
But if you do decide to go the blown route.. check out MAXIMUM BOOST by Corky Bell. It's got tons of information to help with your buildup. It's probably the best book I've ever seen on the subject.

Re: building an engine, asking for some input...
Yes, that does happen. But if you control detonation, etc... you will be ok. Same way with a blower. Just pick your poison.
Good luck with the buildup.
And seriously, get that book... you'll be glad you did. I think I got mine at the local Barnes & Noble. Do a search for Maximum Boost on Amazon.com. It's about $24 and worth every penny.

Re: building an engine, asking for some input...
i like the idea of turbo's and superchargers because of the gains you get with little effect on mileage, but i love a n/a engine. i will probably go with the 11.1 383. what cam should i run
Re: building an engine, asking for some input...
I like turbos too. They're a whole lot more forgiving on your tranny and rearend too, to a certain extreme.
Going with a CC306 is a easy pick. There are several different opinions on what to do about a cam. I would suggest getting a custom grind.
Mine is a custom grind from Lloyd Elliott. (Check my cardomain page... link in sig).
Don't rule out a blower just yet. They are expensive, but... you can keep your stock crank, keep your stock cam, wouldn't have to worry about porting heads. Just some things to think about.

Re: building an engine, asking for some input...
i am going to buy a
eagle crank
6" eagle sir rods
pistons will prolly be wiseco or something
. but if i build a good high output 383 how much boost could i go with on a na motor ? like 4.5 psi?

Re: building an engine, asking for some input...
Yeah, with 11:1 compression... you'll probably have to be at 4.5-6psi. At that low level of boost... it's not even worth it in my opinion. A lot of money for a little bit of boost.
But, that's just from research I've done and things I've read. There may be guys that would say you could go more than that. I would post in the forced induction forum and see what they say.
