Exclamation broken manifold stud!!!!!!!

Hey guys, my question is, how hard is it to replace a broken manifold stud where the Y pipe meets the manifolds. How do I get the old stud out?? And also where can I pick up a new stud? AutoZone? Thanks guys, i just added a cutout and had all my exhaust off for other reasons and one of the studs snapped So hopefully you can help. Thanks

I dont plan on doing long tubes, or headers for that matter, i just did an expensive a4 to m6 conversion, so that is out of the question. SO, if anybody could help with my problem that would be great. Thanks guys

Also, do the studs screw in, or do they just push into the mainfold? If they just push in can I just use a bolt? Or are they a stud with threads on both sides? Please help if you could guys, I really want to get this fixed. Thanks a ton guys!!

are you talking about header bolts?

the ones that you screw in to hold your headers on? Cause i have on right now that broke off a long time ago also. and the only way i know how to get one out is take the head off and drill it out. But if you do that you might as well get new heads, hehe.

They are threaded into the manifold..
And can be difficult to remove broken ones...

I am talking about the ones that hold the Y pipe on, so they screw in? Are they reverse threads?

The three studs on the manifold are screwed in, not pressed in, and they are not reversed thread. If you can get a grip on what's left, you could try soaking it overnight with some penetrating oil and then try working it free. It's not going to be an easy task though, with the constant heat cycling of the manifold and bolts.

I'm not sure if Autozone will have a replacement stud .... sounds more like a dealer item to me.

I broke 2 of those studs off of the driver's manifold a while back. I ended up replacing the whole manifold because it was easier than messing with the studs. With all of the people putting headers on their cars, your chances of finding a used/cheap manifold are pretty good. Maybe a post in the "Parts Wanted" forum could help you?

Thomas.

I recently had the same problem. All mine were so rusted that there was no way they would come off without breaking.

So i removed the manifolds....pretty easy, and I cut the old studs off and drilled a new hole where the previous studs were and retapped the holes. So then i went down to Ace Hardware and bought some new bolts. This way i eliminated the studs all together.

Worked out wonderfully

Hope it goes well for you

Yeah, my plan is to grind the remaining bit of bolt off from the bottom, then just drill up through the hole and then just slide a bolt through the top. Hope fully all goes well.
