Re: breslin header bolts

What are you currently using for fasteners? I.e, are you implying that your headers are leaking because of the bolts? Just curious.

thx

Re: breslin header bolts

no implying that my current fasteners backed off causeing them to blow out. so im going with pery's dead soft blow proof gaskets and breslins.

Same gasket and bolt combo Ive used on three LT1s. All three cars are leak free and the bolts havent been touched after the install.

Re: breslin header bolts

My header bolts never backed out, and I have the standard ones that came with my MAC's. I don't believe much in the locking bolts. If you retorque the standard bolts every day for a week or so, you'll be o.k. I also used the Mr. Gasket Ultra seal gaskets, which are very similar to the Felpro's. I did have problems with the copper gaskets however, they had very small leaks.

Re: breslin header bolts

You only check to see if they need to be retightened the first week. I haven't touched mine in over two years.

I've never seen those before, looks like a great design
Much better than the 3-peice stage-8 locking bolts I have now.

If ya don't get the stainless, take out the locking screw on all of them and put a small dab of anti-seize on them to insure they will unlock when ya want to take them out or re tighten.

Great comment. I was thinking of putting a dab of anti-sieze on the SS
locking screws as well. It sure can't hurt anything.

Re: breslin header bolts

Just curious - why wouldn't you put antisieze on the stainless ones? Does it react in some way with stainless steel?

They don't unscrew themselves, the gaskets compress from heat cycling and the bolts probably stretch a little, too. You should count on having to retighten them a couple times, then lock them down if you want.

And some of those copper gaskets are shaped wrong for the headers in that the header openings might cross over the boss in the lower portion of the gasket and have a built-in leak on all 8.
