break in oil - is it worth it?
Re: break in oil - is it worth it?
That said, the main reason we used break in oils back in the olden days was to protect flat tappet lifters on start up. That really isn't a problem any longer with roller lifters, minimizing the need for special oils.
So, you make the call. You won't hurt a thing by using these oils but I don't think you'll really need them. I, personally, used regualr oil when I rebuilt my engine and changed it after the first 250 miles and cut open the oil filter looking for trouble.
Re: break in oil - is it worth it?
I just had my engine done and my buddy who did the machine work just recc. that i use a good oil like castrol a 10-w40--i did that ran the motor for around 30min or so and put 20 miles on it and changed it again---
Re: break in oil - is it worth it?
That was pretty much my thoughts as well and they had to claim the additives help the rings seat or they wouldnt sell to any of the roller motors. Im tempted to do a little mix as ill be about 8qt capacity and definately wouldnt want to put $80 in oil unless it truly makes a difference in a roller motor. Engine builder didnt recomend and plenty of people dont use it but I surely dont know if it has any advantage. Thanks guys.
