Im currently looking for an lt1 for my camaro. Im looking on craigslist and I see alot of impala lt1s for sale. What is the difference between each motor. I know the camaro lt1 has more hp, but what is different? Does the camaro have better heads and do they have the same shortblock internals or not.

 

Camaro has aluminum heads. and a different cam shaft ??? in my opinion I would stick with the camaro engine ..I'm sure there are some other stuff to. But if I was to say anymore I would be speculating

 

The bottom end went out in my motor. So if I bought an lt1 out of a impala, used the short block and used the rest of my motor from the heads up, would that be a big difference hp wise. Has anyone ever done this?

 

The cam is slightly different but not enough that you'd feel the power difference. The big difference between the two engines is the heads..the aluminum heads apparently cool better and allow more ignition advance. Swap 'me and you'll be fine...

 

The impala ss iron heads actually flow better but they just weight alot more.
Sort of an even trade off.
