Braking Problem

Every once in a while I experience this. When I'm going about 5mph or so and slightly press on the brake and slow down, my traction light flicks on in the dash(even though the TCS is off), the brakes squeal, and the engine revs up about 200 rpm. It's really wierd and I think it only happens after I've been driving for a bit. Doesn't happen after hard braking or anything. Let me know what ya think.

Your wheelspeed sensor is either
a) malfunctioning
b) detecting a wheel lockup.
c) Break in the Wires.
d)a false reading.

If its easily repeatable and fairly consistant you can pretty much rule out C). And if your wheels aren't locked you can rule out b).

I have this problem right now and i had it scanned for me. It throws a Front Wheelspeed sensor error code. It also for some reason triggers the ABC INOP light under heavy accelleration to me to, i DOn't know if its related though .

I know for the rear wheelspeed sensors, all it is is a magnetic sensor which is mounted near the wheel very close to what looks like a big toothed metal gear. The big gear looking thing spins with the wheel. The sensor detects when the each teeth pass by and give the computer information in pulses. So if the pulses stop, it means the wheels locked up. What can also happen is that the senor being magnetic can collect ferrous metal dust from driving. Over time it can become a big fat ball of mettalic dust. This basically hampers the ability for the sensor to give accurate pulses.

Now the rear ones are easy to access because you can take the wheel off and follow the wire to the sensor. Plus you can take hte sensor out and clean it.

The font ones are a whole nother thing. I think theyre built into the piece (Someone fill me in with the name here) that the wheel and disk bolt down to. From what i've seen so far you need to replace the whole darn thing.

Can someone who's had more experience on the front wheels shed some light? I think this problem will likely reocurr more as our aging camaros wear down

Awesome! Thanks so much for the info. I'll have it checked out. I think it is coming from the rear but I'm not sure. My ABS INOP comes on, too, but not under heavy braking, only really light braking going really slow. And my brakes squeal after a days worth of somewhat heavy braking which may lead to the problem, too. Do you think 13" rotor upgrade will take care of this problem?

I'm no brake master but I dont think the rotors will affect the wheelspeed sensors tripping.
