bouncing temp gauge?
just tryed to flush my heater core ( it didnt work), and now my temp gauge says im running hot. But the weird thing is when i slow down the gauge will drop to half everytime. so it bounces with starting and stoping. Any ideas?
Re: bouncing temp gauge?
Just take off both heater hoses and put the yard hose nozzel in one and watch to see if there is any crap coming out the other. NOW turn on the hose, see anything.
Sounds like air or crap got around the sender in the drivers side head or a loose connection.

Re: bouncing temp gauge?
i did bleed the lines, it was spurtin for a while, i think a lot of air got in the system with the hose so im gonna bleed it agian tommarow morning and see what that gets me.

I know what the problem is... First thing you do is make sure your Rad Cap is in good working condition.
Here is the problem.. you coolant is low... Trust me... Been there many times. When the level of coolant reaches a point where the coolant does not touch the sensor... the sensors reads cooler... as soon as you rev it up the pump sends hot coolant and the sender now is showing high...cause coolant is flowing high enough to touch the sensor..
You have air on your system. I once found my Rad cap was leaking so when it got hot it would leak coolant into the overflow container... but didnt suck the coolant all the way back into the radiator when it got cold... sometimes it took several hot/cold cycles for the sympots to show up.. the end result... car low on coolant and sensor acting up.
bleed the air out only when the engine has idled long enough to have the thermostat open.. else you just gunna flush coolant out.. not air.. I would just buy a new radiador cap. they are cheap. then warm up the engine till is hot enough for the thermostat is open ... only then I would bleed the sytem for three consecutive days just to be sure. (three hot/cold cycles that is)
