Bought SS Hood, now where do I get the SS intake kit?
Bought SS Hood, now where do I get the SS intake kit?
My 96 Z is in the body shop right now getting the SS hood put on it. I bought the Suncoast Creations SS style hood at a local place, and I want the SS intake because it should increase my horsepower. Anyone know where I can get it? Thanks.

You can get the SS air induction kits from several places, FBODYMOTORSPORTS.com has them for about $200 some. Infact, they sell the hood and airbox assembly as a kit for people who want to buy the whole setup.. which runs about $750.
=== CORRECTION ===
The box is $305. http://www.fbodymotorsports.com/inc/pdetail?v=1&pid=143

I have the K&N FIPK kit right now, do you think I'll gain any power by putting the SS intake on it since I'm getting the hood?

i have the same setup. I just wanted the ram air, and a place to mount my msd. I actually bought my airbox w/ k&n filter from another member for 100 bucks. Do a search, and you could save some real $$

I have the K&N FIPK with the SS hood. I use the ram air for engine cooling rather than using it for the intake.

The ss air scoop is one of the worst ones made. The air is actually more likely to blow over the scoop instead of into it due to the position. The hood also acts as a giant heat soak because the air has to travel so far to reach the air box.

if ya still wanted one i'd send ya mine and possible some money since it isnt perfect for a real cai system since mine just has one of the cheap ebay rice ones in it that i dont like
Re: Bought SS Hood, now where do I get the SS intake kit?
Guess I will chime in since I own a 97 SS. I can tell you from first hand experience I ran 2 tenths quicker swapping to a K&N FIPK then I did with the stock Ram Air Setup. Don't get me wrong, the Ram Air works, I think the formula worked out to be .3 lbs of boost. So it is worth something. Too bad you gotta be going almost 200mph to get that.
The Ram AIr setup looks cool. I will give you that, but the Lingenfelter, Moroso, K&N, AS&M, or SLP CAI are better then the stock setup.
Note: THere ARE some people out there that have had great success with their Ram Air setup, but I wasn't one of them. I think of everyone I asked (thats 96 or 97 owners) everyone of them but 1 said they were quicker with a CAI then the Ram Air setup.
I am sure if you do a search you will find what I said to be true.
Also, if you decide to go to Ram Air, you are going to need to watch the Air Tube Fitting on the drivers side manifold. On a 96/97SS this pipe is shaped like a "U" where as a stock LT1 car its shaped like a "7" because of the Ram Air duct work.
