Bottom of car is covered in oil.

Was doing an oil change tonight and noticed that oil is everywhere. I had it up on ramps so couldn't see exactly everything. What I did see was my filter covered in oil. I know the filter is tight, and I felt back behind where the EGR valve is and no oil. Of course can't exactly get my hand back there. Anyways, what could be leaking?

I have a 93 Z and I did a search about the oil sending unit and all I saw was a pic off of shoebox's site of where it would be. I would like to have a pic of the actual OSU on the car. I think it was the rubber thing covering what kind( I stress kinda) looks like an O2 sensor.

If the case if I just replace it will it fix my problem?

Please help.

Re: Bottom of car is covered in oil.

do a search on here for the famous rear intake leak, GM calls it the "China Wall" in their service bulliton. get a flash light, mirror, open hood, look at the rear of the intake manifold in the valley, right under the EGR tube that runs from the intake to the exhaust, yup the EGR Tube when it gets hot metal expands, so it lifts up on the rear of the intake and breaks the RTV seal and whoolaa! oil leak!!!

Re: Bottom of car is covered in oil.

My rear seal was leaking and the timing chain cover was leaking!

Just got the car back yesterday, from the shop and oil is still dripping from the front of the engine. Guess its the timing cover again, its a 97 z-28 with 67,000 miles.

This is the picture of the oil sending unit on a 95 or above

However ours is above the oil filter on the drivers side, plug is identical to the one in the picture,

If the leak is covering the under neath your car i bet its the intake leak thats got ya.

Here's the location of the oil sending unit on a 93 from Shoebox's site:

My motor has 1k miles on it and I have a leak already. I know where it is, just too lazy to get back under it again yet.

I have to agree. Gotta love intake leaks! While you're at it, if you can get away with it, this is the time to get rid of the whole EGR crap. I live in MN, no emissions testing, so on went the blockoff plates when I did my intake this weekend. Much easier to get at the rest of the "important" stuff at the back of the engine now, too.
