bottle and brush, or drill hone?

I've heard the bottle and brush method mentioned, but never heard how to do it or what is involved, I can still see light cross hatching on the cylinder walls and wanted to clean them up a little bit before I put in the new rings, can someone help me out?

Not familar with the bottle & brush method. I have seen a drill mounted ball hone used before and turned out ok. From what I saw, just pour oil on the ball hone, and go up and down at a good pace so that you maintain a 45 degree crosshatch pattern.

As for my own motor though, I wasn't settling for any backyard stuff and had it done while my block was at the machine shop. I would recommend you do the same...

IMO, if I was doing rings, I would go to the trouble of getting the correct finish from a machine shop (if I was doing a beater, I might hone it myself). They would also be able to mic it to find out the condition. You may need oversize rings or it may have more wear than you think and need boring.

I preffer the the standard drill hone, the bottle brush in my opinion sucks, the hatching in my opinon is not as good. Also its a good idea to make a tool to hold the hone at a the desired angle.
