Borla XR-1 or Dynomax bullets

Is there that much of a difference in quality sound wise for their respective prices?

What I want to do is keep my Loudmouth catback, remove the resonator like others seem to be doing, and put JetHot lts with a custom, dual cat y pipe.

Should I go with the XR1 or save some money by buying a 16'' dynomax?

Thanks

The Borla XR-1 is an excellent "high flow" muffler, but doesn't provide a whole lot in the way of noise reduction. I run a 3" x 12" on each collector, and they sounded like wide open headers. Got a little quieter when I added 3" pipes back to the axle. Don't know how they compare to a Dynomax.

I didn't know you could just buy the Borla muffler, i thought you had to buy the whole cat-back, or the mufflers and tips section.

If you can just buy the muffler how much is it, and the part number if you don't mind me asking

Thanks Injuneer, I'm particularly lookin for something that will tame the Loudmouth's rasp and loudness when driving normally. It's loud enough with shorties+cats+LM, even though WOT sounds perfect. But then again, you're using a 12" and not the 16". Maybe that makes a noise level difference

Canadian z28, looking at my summit mag, the Borla xr1 comes in several different inlet and outlet sizes with prices ranging from $149 to $269. I dunno which would be the appropriate size in our case.

The dynomax bullets are around $30. Huge difference. Hopefully more will chime in their opinions on both. I simply need the best sounding bullet or muffler to replace my resonator

If you go with the borla and find the part number let me know.

Thanks, Patrick

People seem to be confusing the Borla "rear" mufflers for the 4th Gen with their XR-1 series "race" mufflers. You can buy a Borla 4th Gen specific cat-back, and get the single-in/single-out muffler that hangs behind the rear axle. Or you can buy a Borla "rear section" muffler only. That is a typical single-in/dual-out cross-flow muffler, 4th Gen specific, not the same one that comes with the catback. And based on my personal experience it is a very restrictive 2.5" muffler.... not something you would put on anything other than the stock engine. Sounds very good though.

The XR-1's are single-in/single-out, straight through mufflers in your choice of diameter and length. They are generic, not 4th Gen specific. You pick the size you want, and they are available in the JEG's or Summit catalog. I use them as "collector" mufflers, and only added outlet extensions after my local track required all exhausts to end behind the rear edge of the door.

3 x 12 XR-1 collector muffler
