lt1 camshaft in a small block Gen I

would a stock LT1 camshaft (1995 trans am) work in an old small block GenI?

I doubt it. Cams for gen I usually are made to be used with an old style distributer, among other things.

It will work but you have to shorten the dowel pin. They still have a distributor drive gear on them... It is used to drive the oil pump.

It will work. Just modify the pin, as stated above. This is a mod used in some older 305 and 350 trucks because it lets them maintain the low end and enhance power further up than the stock truck cams.
