he is trying to tell me there is a "differnt pattern" I'm thinking maybe for a LS1 but I don't know

Basically you are working your way from the center, out, Chiltons has it as well as the Haynes.
I like to make about 5 passes instead of 3, although I imagine its not that critical, since 3 works.
