BMW M3 Wheels on an F-Body?

I was rootin around on Car domain.com and found that Max929 Test fit a BMW M3 18x8.5 wheel on his 93 Z28. It looked like it fit pretty well. I'm going to be buying some wheels soon and wouldn't mind going with something different. I was originally going with 18x9.5's ZO6 Wheels, but the offset seems like it's going to sit too far inside the wheel well. I really want to have my wheels fit as close to the edge of the wheel well as possible without having to worry about rubbing or binding, It just looks better. The bolt pattern on the M3 wheels is 5x120mm. Is that the same as the 5x4 3/4 F-Body bolt pattern? If anyone has any pic's of F-Body's with 18 inch wheels of any kind. Any info would be mucho helpful.

The 4th Gen bolt pattern is 5 x 4.75" (120.65mm), so there will be a slight mismatch. That could result in eccentricty of the wheel with the axle, some added bending stresses on the lugs, that they were not designed for, etc. Should be possible for a machine shop to correct the bolt circle and eliminate the mismatch.

Wow, Those Z06 Wheels look bad *** on that silver T/A. I've done a little more research and it seems that the folks that are using the BMW M3 wheels are not having any problems with them. Although I love the way vette wheels look on an F-Body, They are sooo common. I would really like to try something a bit out of the ordinary. Are there any other Wheels from different car companys like BMW that would look good and more importantly fit properly "sort of" on a T/A. On E-Bay, the price on aftermarket BMW Wheels and Z06/F-Body Wheels are about the same give or take. Is .065mm that much of a difference that machining is required? How much would something like that cost?

How about some 360 Modena 5spokes, or some SL55 AMG rims. I can think of about 20 other german/italian rims that would look rad, its all your taste though. Any of those might fit, it will be luck, or if a manufacturer makes them for our bolt pattern, if not adapters/spacers will be required.

Haven't seen an M3 wheel up close and personal but if they have a taper seat then I'd pass on using them for the reasons stated in Injuneer's post.

Good day.

Yup.... 30deg conical seat. It's only a 0.65mm difference, but the first lug you tighten pulls the wheel that much off center, and the other four studs will have varying degrees of bending stresses induced to allow them to bend to match the smaller bolt circle.

Hmm...do I want it to look really cool or be confident the wheels will stay on the car . Decisions, decisions....

Red face

30 degree conical seat eh?

.65mm is roughly .026 for you metric-challenged. That's a good deal of difference in a rim that mounts centrically with its lugs.

That being the case, you'd better leave them wheels to the beemer boys.

Good day.

I have 18inch BBS rims on my car and I think they look awesome. I have never seen another fbody around with BBS's on before. It makes it look more like a race car and also noone has them. Sometimes you have to think outside the box!! J/k
