BMR K-Member & Shorty Header Fitment Issues

Just as the title says, does anyone know the actual Fitment Issue witht he BMR LT1 Specific K-Member with Motor mounts, and shorty headers. I have Edelbrock Headers, and and wondering what'd gonna get in the way, or if I can just notch something. BMR is in INDY all week at a show, and wont be in shop till next Monday, and the Motor, Trans, and Exhaust are outta my car so I can't tkae a day and find out....

So did I, but I guess they have a fitment issue on shorty headers?

Awesome, I hope that it works that way for mine, since mine are Edelbrocks, but do you have the K-Member with the built in motor mounts, cuz that's the specific model I am hearing about...

Yes, mine has the built-in motor mounts. It is possible that the Y-pipe may need to be "adjusted". My k-member and Y-pipe were in contact after the install and we simply dimpled the Y-pipe so there would be a slight gap between the two. Other than that it was a perfect fit.

I hate to contradict but I added the BMR LT1 w/motor mounts k-member this summer and had Hooker shorties. My y-pipe hits the k-member. On my stock k-member we had had to grind away about 3/4" to clear originally. I am switching to a true dual long tube setup.

Re: BMR K-Member & Shorty Header Fitment Issues

I have MAC mid's, and I sent them an email to see if it would work with my set up, and this was their reply:

To be honest I do not know, both the SLP and AS&M shorty headers do not fit due to the cross over pipe. We have never tested the Mac set up or heard if the fit or not for sure. I would try posting on LS1 tech or another forum to ask if anyone has tried that set up.
So it sounds like the Y-pipe is the issue.

Apparently the AJE K-members do not have any fitment issues, but you would have to research that to be sure.

Your response is really not a contradiction, rather a reaffirmation. The same occurred w/ mine, contact between the Y-pipe and the K-member, as noted in a previous post. With small indenting, maybe 1/2" (no grinding), of the Y-pipe, the contact was resolved. A custom designed Y-pipe would resolve this as well, which is what I plan to do when I switch to long tubes. There had been no contact w/ the stock K-member and the Y-pipe originally, at least none that I noted.

Re: BMR K-Member & Shorty Header Fitment Issues

I just went through this with SLP 1-3/4" single-cat on my 95 with a BMR k-member. It interferred quite a bit on the drivers side where the header flange meets the y-pipe. A local shop cut it, and re-routed it and now I have tons of clearance. The motor/headers/k-member were out of the car, so we just took everything down to the shop which made it much easier for them to work on. I've got two buddies with JBA headers (one is a single cat 95, the other is a dual cat 96) and both have BMR k-members and both fit fine with no adjustments.

When you get ahold of BMR, he'll just take the conservative route and tell you that you "might have an interference problem". He was no help whatsoever...there's just too many combinations for them to bother with. A good exhaust shop will be able to take care of you no matter what...
