Blue smoke after cam install?

I just finished up a cam swap in my 92 and have a couple questions about some issues I am having.

I now leave a nice trail of blue smoke at WOT. It also starts hard now. The only thing I can think that might be causing this was when I installed the hub on the crank I used a soft pipe and a hammer to drive it on aways. Maybe I moved the crank a tad and its hanging up on the thrust bearing?

Maybe I should check the valvetrain alignment. I am sure the new cam and old cam had the same base circle, but maybe not.

Any other idea's?

Re: Blue smoke after cam install?

Sounds like you screwed something up, probably by pounding the hub on. This should be posted in the 3rd gen forum, by the way.

Did you change springs and valve seals?I had the same problem at WOT.It was a slight valve cover leak at the rear, running on the headers.

I put my hub on by hammering it too. I really hope to God I did not mess anything up. I tried to be gentle (if that's possible hammering metal to metal) but I was out of options. Stripped threads twice, even put it in the oven and the bitch still didn't want to go on without a fight. Anyways, is there a way to tell if you messed something up before you start the vehicle initially or do I have to wait until I start it and see if it is hard to start??? I can't afford that kind of damage, screw GM for not using a keyed hub to begin with.

I changed the springs, but not the valve seals. I'll check the valve covers tonight.

Anyone think I might be sucking oil up through the intake?

I doubt this has anything to do with hammering the hub on, I think hwat you are experiencing is either an intake gasket leak, or valve cover leak, or did you cut out the PCV little box in the valve cover(fergot the name darn ), or if you didn't change valve seals then that would cause that too, reason being because with time the valve seal & the valve got a wearn pattern, once you change lift by putting either rockers/cam or both on then a part of the valve that was never introduced to the seal now gets introduced, this will cause the valve seal to fail at times.

You made 475rwhp with a hotcam? Thats nuts. Must be an LT1 record. What cubes do you have, 383 or 396? What heads are you running? That car is a beast.

OK, first of all, does it blow blue smoke when your driving, or parked too? Is it coming from JUST the tailpipes? This is important, because if it is coming from out the tailpipes, you have an internal oil leak that is migrating into the combustion chamber. Only things I can think of would be bad/reused intake gasket, bad valve seals or worn rings. If it is coming from the engine compartment in general, you probably have a leaky valvecover or timing cover, since you needed to remove those to do the cam.

This really should have nothing to do with pounding on the hub(unless you ruptured the oil pan gasket/crank seal). It also has nothing to do with valvetrain alignment.

Everyone always askes that, lol. If you click the link in my sig, it will point you to all my mods. The car made 370 RWHP on motor alone, the 475 HP was with an NX 100 shot.

It only blows blue somke at WOT, out of the tail pipes. The rings should eb good, motor only has about 12k on it, and did not smoke prior to the cam swap. I thought if the valve seals were bad it would smoke on start up, but then clear up? I am thinking/hoping its intake. I did re-use the intake to head gaskets because they are only 12,000 miles old and looked brand new. I guess that is prolly my problem.
