Re: Blown motor :(

Looks exactly what happened to my motor. 1 exploded piston, 4 rods shot out. I can only assume that a dropped valve caused it. Heres what happened, wrong rocker broke keeper, valve dropped. Looked ok so we put it back together and soon after it exploded. The same valve that dropped was the only one broken. And the piston under it was the one that exploded. But could that explain 4 rods to shoot out the other side of the pan? Don't you think thats too much of a coincidence if the rods let go first? I'll probably never know for sure and It sux not knowing. Now im a nervous wreck about the new one thats going in very soon. More nervous than excited

Re: Blown motor :(

damn we must have very similar problems then. I had a valvespring (ex components 612) shatter about 2 years ago, since then I have never had a valve slap a piston, but it is obvious there was valveslap... so which went first the conn. rod or the pin in the piston?

Re: Blown motor :(

I dont know didnt I take it apart. Mechanic wasn't very helpful in finding that out. Thats great to hear I'm using ex612 in my new motor. Jeezus it seems like alot of aftermarket parts are crap so take ur pick. It only takes one little thing to go wrong then boom.

Re: Blown motor :(

i would strongly suggest that you upgrade the springs to the beehive especially w/ a mean cam like that... they are supposedly only good to like .580 lift and I was only at 3000rpms when this happened....sorry to say that it must have been the pin that holds the conn. rod to the piston that slipped out because mine was shattered as you can see...

I am going to get the LE3 package probably myself with the rebuild because they come w/ good valvesprings, good beefy cam, good dyno numbers too
