Blown motor :(

Ok, I had heard a noise in my motor and thought it was nothing, but I was driving yesterday and had a classic blown motor. Loud pop, white smoke everywhere, car dead. Towed it back home today, and there is a HUGE hole in the side of my oil pan from something shooting out of the side of it. There is also a oil pan bolt missing and coolant/oil everywhere. I do have a few pictures on my phone, if anyone can host them I will email them to you.

I was wondering what could have caused this? I think i rattled loose a connecting rod pin, but the oil pan will be coming off as soon as I am done w/ these tests I have today and tomorrow hopefully. More pictures to come with my friend's digital camera, any advice? or cheap LT4 short blocks?

Looks like its 355 time... or 383... or 396... looks like I should get a job

Re: Blown motor :(

anyone ever used Golen Engine Service? I was thinking of buying one of their shortblocks, unless I can do it myself for cheaper, anyone seen some good prices on forged internals or a LT4 block?

Re: Blown motor :(

The Golen competition 383 seems like a very fair price to me.
I have no idea what their reputation is but is should be able to take quite a bit.

Re: Blown motor :(

lol dochal, no offense but I saw your picture of your oil pan and I want someone to post my picture because my oilpan has 3 holes and 1 large slit through it about 3 inches long by .5" thick... it is nasty. I just want to build a good motor for cheaper than that 3600... I think I could do it myself for cheaper right?

Re: Blown motor :(

you very well could build it cheaper. I just dont have time or know enough about it to do it myself. If you email your pic to me, i'll put it on my website.

Re: Blown motor :(

another vote for chad (golen), this new motor puts my old one to shame, same h/c package moved from the old motor to this one...

Re: Blown motor :(

Chad is a great guy, he is building my motor as we speak. I went with his 383 with forged srp pistons and the cast eagle crank for $2,899.

Is this a short block or long block assembly?

Re: Blown motor :(

short block I am pretty sure... I need to post pics of the heads to see if they are damaged... 2 valves are bent so I am sure a port/polish w/ new bigger valves is due. The money is just piling up...
