Question Blocking the air tubes @ factory manifolds

I did a search and couldn't really find anything.

Has anyone found anything useful and universally available to block off the AIR tubes at the exhaust manifold? Pipe plug from home depot or something?

I'm completing a LT1 conversion in a 85 s-10 blazer, in an emissions county, but don't need them.

Thanks,

Jeff

Re: Blocking the air tubes @ factory manifolds

Depends on the year of the engine..... 93-95(most) will work with an M22-1.5 oil drain plug. 95(some)-97 require a smaller plug... maybe 5/8 or M18. I've also heard of people using "AN" style plugs for the manifold connections.

Thumbs up Re: Blocking the air tubes @ factory manifolds

Thanks Fred.

I'm back in the game, sold my 89 s-10 w/ lt4 conversion, whined enough to the missus, now have a 85 s-10 blazer, doing an awd conversion, typhoon - clone w/ lt1 / 4l60-e.

the engine was a 96 caddy motor, has 97ss aluminum mildly ported heads, stock manifolds. i'll have to do some investigation to figure out what exactly I have.

M-22 plug worked here on a '96 Vette. Got a pair from Autozone.

Thanks Dan, haven't got a chance to purchase the plugs yet, I'll just grab a set of them from the help section when I'm in there!

Where is Summerfield, NC? I have a set of these plugs in my toolbox I will let go cheap (since I don't need them anymore). Get a price of a set of new plugs and drop me a PM if interested. Maybe I can ship them in a USPS envelope.

Hey Curly,

It's 10 mi north of Greensboro, 20 minutes from the VA border. Advance shows them for $1.98/ea, so don't know if it'd be worth your time to ship them. I really appreciate the offer though.

If you're nearby, I'll have my programming cable soon if you need any datalogging / tweaking.

Thanks!

Jeff

Cool.... I got mine from Carquest (since they are across the street from my work) and paid more than that for them . I'll eventually run into someone that needs them.

Re: Blocking the air tubes @ factory manifolds

Just to give everyone a quick update, bought two m22x1.50 plugs from napa, part number:704-1048, listed as drain plugs. They're too big so I'm going to exchange them for the smaller plugs. Fred, should I just ask for M18x1.50 or something close?

(On a side note, noticed you're from NJ, I'm originally from there, West Keansburg / Middletown / Port Monmouth area.)

The engine is a hodge podge, came out of a 96 caddy, has 97 ss heads, thinking the manifolds are from the caddy, but not sure.

Does anyone know of any differences in these manifolds whether they have any performance / weight / design differences? I know, who cares, just a thought.

I'm not sure if the 18mm will fit.... that's just a number I've seen people mention. The single cat cars could use the M22's, the dual-cat cars have the smaller diameter holes.

Re: Blocking the air tubes @ factory manifolds

went ahead and tried the M18 tonight, barely fits. the threads grab, but they waller around in the hole all the way down, so I've got to make another trip. I need more parts, so it's not life or death right now.

18mm=.709"
22mm=.866"

Guess I'll just try and get something around 3/4", hopefully that'd do it. not sure if I need metric or not, the 18s seemed to thread in right, so I'll get 19 and 20mm and try them out.

Since the engine is out of a B-body and not an F-body you may find more applicable information at impalassforum.com. I believe the B-body manifolds just need a threaded cap but I don't know the size.
