block removal
hey guys im in the process of removing my block. i have an M6 96 TA WS6. i have the block completely unbolted and ready to pull. i also unbolted the tranny from the block but it still seems to be stuck. any tips on what could be wrong? clutch? flywheel?? i removed 6 bolts that connected to the block from the tranny. do blocks connected with an M6 just slide right off like A4s?? i really want my block out this weekend. all help is appreciated.
You prob need to pull the clutch fork out...its prob binding your trans to the clutch which is attached to the block. Take off the hydrolic unit attached to the driver side of the trans (2 bolts) when its off you will see a triangle type piece of metal with a ball indent in it, pull that away towards the bottom of the car. Try now

i unbolted the tranny including the clutch from the block not the bellhousing that the clutch is in. was i supposed to unbolt from the bellhousing?
Not sure what could be binding then, so you have your motor with no trans attached sitting in the car? Should be as easy as removing the motor mount bolts and thats it. Have a friend spot you to see what is binding. Mite be a ground strap perhaps.
yea its sitting in there. block by itself tranny and clutch together. only that the block is being held with something by the flywheel. i got a few replys from my local fbody friends saying that i just need to pry off the block from the clutch becuase sometimes rust builds up in the flanges.

You should not have to take the clutch out to pull the engine. I just left mine on the flywheel. Like they said above, check to see if your clutch fork is still on the throwout bearing. I had a problem pulling my T56 one time and that was the problem.
doesnt the flywheel pull out with the block??
this is my first engine build and i always thought that when block is removed, the flywheel came along too. if not then thats the problem.. im gonna go check it out and see what happens. thanks for the replys guys.

This may sound like a dumb question, but are you sure the input shaft of the tranny still isn't slid in through the clutch/flywheel? If you didn't actually unbolt the flywheel from the crank, and your tranny is still in the car bolted to the cross member, then you can't just jack up the block. It will have to slide foward to clear the input shaft first, then come up. Or, you'll have to unbolt your tranny from the crossmember and either slide it back on a jack or just remove it, then pull the block. Just removing the bellhousing bolts from the block will still not enable you to just jack the block up.

99% it's the clutch fork. I yanked on mine for ten minutes before I looked it up in the manual.
Push the tranny back up towards the motor.
Slide the fork cover off over the two bolts that hold the slave cylinder.
Pull the clutch fork out (perpendicular to the tranny). It is held in by a metal spring. It pulls out really easy. About 3/4 - 1".
The tranny input shaft pulls out of the clutch really easy, be careful not to drop it and bend the input shaft.
Push the tranny back up towards the motor.

block is out thanx guys!! yea it was the clutch fork! thanks alot for all the help!!
