Block machined for a 396, can I do a 383
Block machined for a 396, can I do a 383
I was planning on doing a 396, changed my mind to 383. Can the block still used? I obviously don't know much about the machining process.
Thank you
Thank you
yes, they should have bored the block 30 over so you want have a problem using it... Its the crank that makes the diffrence... 30 over, 3.85 crank is a 396... 30 over and a 3.75 is a 383... hpoe this helps ya...
While the bore is OK, the oil pan rails and bottoms of the cylinder bores need to be clearanced for the specific crank/rod combination you picked. While a 383 usually requires less clearance than a 396, you need to have your specific parts checked for interference.

yes, you can
they just cleared the block for a longe stroke so a shorter one will work fine
