blew a pushrod
Re: blew a pushrod
If your car was overheating it probably blew a head gasket. Which if done right would fill the cylinder with coolant and very possibly hydolock the motor which could at the very least snap a couple of push rods. just hope and pray that the pistons and rods are still intact. good luck and i say just rip it apart and figure out how to put it back together later

Jeremy, if you are curious, pull the intake and heads off and look in the piston bores. BUT again I agree with Shoe, get a professional or consider at least a short block.

Jeremy, Where are you located? If it's in central or, AROUND central Illinois, I would be more than happy to help you out.

I'd be *tempted* to think if he has pieces of a piston and half a rod in pieces in his pan he'd have clogged up the oil filter pretty well, and really known something went *bang*.
Not saying you're wrong, I just don't think you're right.
Oh, and this is the sound of metal-on-metal...piston hitting head

Re: blew a pushrod
worked on it some today, took out the alternator and removed both the valve covers, the driver side a push rod came loose from the roller rocker, wasn't connected under it. took out the push rod seemed fine, wasn't broken/bent so I fixed that, on the passenger side the rods/rockers/springs all looked fine. Ran the car for a few mins, the smoke coming out of the drivers side engine bay isn't coming out anymore. I'll run the car for a good 30mins tommorrow and see what happens. friend said with the push rod its very rare but can happen where something hits wrong or a valve sticks and the push rod gets knocked loose.
Re: blew a pushrod
car runs but sluggish, all the pushrods are fine. So I guess i'm going to pull the intake and see how hard it is to get these heads off. I think I smelled coolant burning when I had it running, not a good sign
