blew a plug on a header.

Everyone, I found out yesterday that my header noise and leak is coming from the emissions tube on my Edelbrock ceramic coated shorty-style headers. Does anyone know what size plug is needed to close it back up? I wanna say it's the SMOG tube? Correct me if im wrong. It's the passenger side header.

Best way to fix that is simple... just get some long tubes, lol. But seriously, did the plug blow out completely? If so you might need to get a hilicoil in there aswell, to re-thread the hole.

There is an AIR connection on each header. Take the plug out of the other side, and check the size. The stock single-cat manifolds, and some header brands can be plugged with an M22-1.5 oil drain plug. They are likely to have those at a Dodge dealer, since they are used in the Cummins Diesel truck engines. Not all headers use the factory threads, though, so the Edelbrocks may be "different".

i see both AIR tubes on the headers, but the tube im talking about sits on the passenger side header down towards the flange that connects my header to the ORY. It sits approx 6 inches away from the flange. Does anyone know what this is? The tube only sticks out about 2-3 inches off the header itself. Thanks

EGR connection, it's a flat flange with a threaded hole for a bolt but not threaded plumbing. You can buy a blockoff plate for it or fabricate some other way to seal it off (assuming you have no EGR system).

ok i believe thats what it is, it feels like it has two openings right on top of each other, the hole on the bottom is plugged but the one on top is not. Will they both be the same size? or should i just go pickup a block-off plate for it at an autoparts store?

The flange for the EGR connection has two holes... one is for exhaust gas flow, the other is for the bolt that holds the EGR riser tube to the header flange. If you have deleted the EGR, you should have put a blocking plate on the header flange, and another on the intake manifold (or blocked the hole for the EGR valve with a plate). You aren't going to find the blocking plate in an auto parts store. You need one from a place that specializes in LT1 parts (like sjmmanufacturing.com).

But it sounds like the exhaust gas flow hole may have been plugged somehow, and the hole that is empty is the threaded hole for the bolt. That does not need to be plugged. Can you feel/hear exhaust gas blowing out of the hole? If not, its already plugged.

thanks for everyone's replies, my problem was the bolt that holds the block-off plate to cover up the egr came loose and uncovered the hole causing to leak. All i have to do tomorrow is tighten the bolt back up while makin sure the plate fully covers the tube on top. Thanks again.
