If you want more HP, you can do the above mods, or try nitrous. Nitrous will get you the most bang for the buck initially, but you have to keep the bottle full.

OTOH, higher gears will not give you more hp, but it will make your car faster assuming you can get traction. So I would recommend gears and tires first, then suspension mods.

Depends on what "exhaust" you have done right now. If you've got flowmasters, you're in worse shape than you were before.

Longtubes, lose the cats, nice catback (or cutout... or both), cold air, gears, good tires, and a tune. That'll run you about a grand (assuming you don't have any of it already and you do all the labor yourself) and you'll notice a world of difference.

For your budget, I would say a cold air intake and headers.

A cheaper alternative to a complete cold air kit would be to cut a window in the stock airbox...will be a few ponies shy of the gain from a kit but will free up a few horsepower for free. 1.6 rockers will also add 10 horsepower or so for a few hundred bucks. Headers will add more power as well but generally require new plug wires, gaskets, possibly a Y-pipe, etc. You also stand a good chance of chasing exhaust leaks, burnt wires, and knock retard issues for a while afterwards.

Given your budget and assuming you're simply wanting to make the car a little more "fun" vs. a specific goal, I'd start with hacking the air box, K&N or equivalent filter, exhaust cutout, 1.6 roller rockers, and a tune. If there's money left over, maybe add an underdrive pully to free up an extra 8-10 horsepower. This will eat up a good chunk of your budget and add 30ish horsepower assuming there are no maintenance issues to fix (o2's, ignition, exhaust leaks, vacuum leaks, etc.).
From this point, you'll have a good base if you want to go further into the realm of heads, cam, headers, etc.

I know it says you want to increase horsepower but if you drive your car on the street as a daily or weekend driver I'd say a hollow 32mm swaybar and bilstein HD shocks. The sway bar you can get used for 60 bucks and makes a noticeable difference. The HD shocks are more aggressive than the Bilstein SLP shocks.. This will make the car more fun to drive.. These should be around 320 bucks for a set of 4? I got a steal on them 5 years ago for 200 bucks for 4.

Definately get cold air induction. Buy it used for 80-100 bucks.. Do a throttle body bypass for 4 bucks.

I wouldnt loose the cats, i'd put high flow ones on. I wouldnt use nitrous unless you dont mind running the possibility of ruining your engine. It sounds like your on a budget as is.

Put some long tube headers and custom y-pipe with high flow cats on it. More into the 800 dollar range though after locking bolts, good header gaskets, and cost of the headers and y pipe..

If you do 1.6 RR, you MUST upgrade the rest of the valvetrain at the same time.

Sorry but an underdrive will not give you 8 to 10 more horses. Closer to 1 or 2. I wouldnt waste any money on an underdrive set.

On a six-speed car don't do anything before you upgrade to an aftermarket short-throw shifter and do a CAGS bypass. You'll thank yourself every time you drive the car. HTH

This is true.

I agree about the short shifter and CAGS bypass as well.

There are a lot of options for you, but only you can decide what you want.

I agree with this guy's post, except I went with KYB AGX's because the Bilsteins are either hard to find or completely unavailable. You'd be amazed at the difference between a decent set of aftermarket shocks and the stock DeCarbons. And if you want to save a few bucks, you can go with the free CAI mod shown in this link until you find a used CAI:

Heres what id say:
1)Cold Air Intake- Do an Ebay 3 Piece CAI($72, i like this kit because it gets rid of the stock intake elbow with the donkey dong on it, gives a lot better flow.), or if you can find an k&n or slp or a cai along those lines for around the same price used(I Got my K&N from a friend for $50), but then like i said, you gotta get a better elbow. those tend to help the flow a little bit, and if you gonna end up paying $70+ for a intake kit, might as well go with the ebay one.
2)Get some pacesetter long tube headers(coated or noncoated... depending on where you live. i dont have to deal with too much rust here in fl, so i went with uncoated.) you can get em for... $275 Shipped-Uncoated, $385 shipped-coated. you can get race headers for the same prices if you dont have to pass emissions.
3)Y-Pipe, you can get the pacesetter one also for $124 shipped.
4)Cut Out, They range in price and quality, i think i remember seeing them for $45 somewhere. max of $80 i think.
5)Then id say go with a tune, either mail in or if you can find someone local to tune it it might save you some money. I was able to find someone local and i got mine tuned for 50 with tunercats. max it should be $150 if i remember right.

So then you still got about 300 dollars left. and youve gained prolly about 20-40 hp depending on how well your tune goes. you could even put that 300 towards a bigger throttle body.

2 things not too do!!!
Buy a tornado fuel saver, as tempting as it may seem.
and dont buy an aftermarket maf. keep your stock one.
