BLEW MY "FORGED" PISTON!! Pics..

One stock injector stopped working and caused one piston to burn in a nitrous pass.
I already have a set of 50 lbs injectors.
What happens if I install 50 lbs injectors in my 396 with stock tuning?
i will remove the "bulletproof" word at my sign.

See that little eyebrow in the piston top? Well that says that the pistons were installed backwards. The reliefs are made to be on the lifter valley side of the block!

It also looks like some MEAN detonation because there is some serious spatter from melted aluminum along with the broken ringland. I'm guessing that hot spot formed there because the piston was in backwards, that would put that part of the piston right below the plug, so it got VERY hot there.

They are the least of your problems.

Not trying to rag on you, but if you had checked piston to valve clearance you would have seen this problem, and been able to correct it.

Always measure twice, cut once...or in this case mock up and check everything before your final assembly.

I don't know the guy, and maybe it was a builder... (no offense to the guy who started this post) but what makes you guys think that he didn't just install them backwards himself? We all make mistakes, and when we don't do things like double/tripple check, they tend to have catastrophic concequences. If it was his builder, I'm sure he'll share, and be getting a free rebuild. But if not, I'm sure he will check the things MachinistOne and SStrokerAce mentioned next time. Sometimes lessons hurt. We've all been there in one way or another.. But no need to get the mob together for a lynching..

So were those small valve reliefs cut by the pistons themselves? Also, is that rub mark on the underneath of the piston from the rod? double
