Open to all opinions!
Blew my motor and buying a new short block and all I can afford is a cam... where, how much and what size!? Thanks!
I want the biggest I can get with stock everything... I want a nice sound!

As in stock everything, you're being literal? No aftermarket springs or lifters?

Changing the cam would not be worth it. I think if you go so far as to go to an lt4 hotcam, you would have to get better springs.

It would be crazy to not change the valvesprings if you go with a more aggressive cam than stock.

With that being said, if you change the valvesprings, timing chain, lifters, retainers, pushrods, rockers, I'd go with a CC306

If you did that, I would go with a gm847. I have one and it seems that I could go even bigger and still be streetable and fast. I don't even have a tune right now and I'm getting decent gas mileage and incredible power.

I just rebuilt my motor and put a cc306 with all the other mods and it is awesome! Worth every penny no doubt

GM 847 will make more power than the cc306. Those are the most commonly used big cams for stock lt1's.

I am thinking about getting rid of my gm847 and am in search of getting something bigger myself because I am about to port my heads. If I did get something bigger, I would sell the gm847 and comp 987 springs. I would keep the 1.6rr's and possibly keep the comp high energy lifters.

gm847, 1.6rr, new springs, what kinda power are we talking about?? How fast can we rev the motor, and what kinda times/trap speed are we looking at in the quarter with stock gear and tires.................let's say in a '96 Z28 M6.

With just a cam and rockers and springs, I'm not sure. But the fastest M6 car with untouched heads is altjar. He ran an 11.90 with the gm847. I would imagine a better driver would take that into the low 11's. Considering that the fastest bolt on car ran a 12.20.
