Bigger oil filter ??
Bigger oil filter ??
HEy guys, I liek to change my own oil and I have noticed that the filter looks a little on the wimpy side for a v8. Now my L98 had a short filter as well, but there was a filter that was twice as long for it also.
Is there a bigger filter I can put on my LT1 ??
And if so how do I go about looking it up ?
For example I go into Discount Auto to get a purolator filter nad look up the # and it shows the short one. What engine(or car) would I look up to find the part # for teh double sized oil filteR?
I cant stand trying to use a littel filter on a 383 stroker.

A good old ACDelco PF35 is the best bang for the buck filter there is. In all honesty the "small" stock filter has more than enough filter area to clean your oil at even more lengthy oil change intervals. Added oil capacity is a good thing though. If you have a stock, sandwiched, oil cooler on your car the extra capacity oil filter will sit quite low... although the factory cooler is a real hunk o junk anyway and I would probably remove it.
I use the K&N HP3002 on my car, it holds about 3/4 of a quart of oil. It still boggles my mind how GM went to such a tiny filter on the LS1s, those PF44s are as small as the filter that goes on my wife's 1.6L Civic! So even the stock LT1 PF25 filter is pretty big in comparison to the PF44.
Found another good choice, the Wix 51060. The NAPA Gold is also the same filter (but more expensive) and has a similar numbering system (if you went into NAPA and asked for an 060 they'd know which one you mean)
