BFG-DRs with stock 10-bolt
BFG-DRs with stock 10-bolt
Hey i was thinking about running bfg drags for the occasional 1/4 mile run on my camaro, and i was wondering how bad they would be on the stock drive line. Will my clutch and 10-bolt last very long with tires that sticky? my mods are below with the addition of some jet hot Lts which are going to be installed soon...
I've been using mine for the last 3 years that way, no problems. Of course I can't guarantee YOURS will last that long, some guys have had issues early in the game. I think I might have gotten a "good" one.
Are u guys serious?
Drag Radials are perfectly fine for a stock rear end. U don't need a girdle, better axles, etc.
I have seen guys on a pretty much stock LT1 running slicks and cutting 1.6 60' foots and their rear ends are just fine. A friend of mine has BFG DRs on his Z and he sumpts the clutch @ 4k RPMs with no problems. Drag Radial won't dead hook as much as a slick, so i HIGHLY doubt u will have any rear end problems.

maybe he's been abusing his car a little too much? just last wednesday a built ls1 threw a driveshaft. it happens!
You can break stuff at any point.
Realistically, a few jaunts down the 1/4 mile should be fine.
If you do what I did and start racing every weekend you will have problems. I rebuilt the stock rear twice prior to getting a 12 bolt. I found the stock rear was basically good for about 400 passes, or one season for me with running two classes at two tracks.
It is the launch shock that really kills parts. A good launch on drag radials for me with minimal mods back then would yield 1.8's and that was sufficient to break parts over time.

Check with the boards advertisers to buy one.
I run my BFGs on my stock rear with no problems. I do have a SPEC stage 2 sitting in my room ready to go on when the stocker fails/when I get my 12-bolt next year. On the other hand, my friend's 02 Z28 broke his rear on BFG drags but he had 4.10s which is most likely why.
