face guagues install
face guagues install
I"m thinking of getting some face gauges maybe even the flame ones(anybody know where to get them at?)
I was just wondoring do you have to take your whole dash out or what, and how many hours does it take to install, and has anyone paid a mechanic to do it and how much for that? thanks

They're pretty easy to install yourself. The front glass unbolts from the gauge cluster. No need to remove the dash or anything like that. The new faceplate slides over the existing gauge. You do not need to remove the needles to do this. If you do remove the needles...be ready to spend a while recalibrating everything. Yep, I found that out the hard way
Total time to install is maybe 30 minutes. I bought the reverse indiglo gauges from E-bay for $35. They also have flame ones and other types.

Cool I didn't know it would be that easy. I like the flame ones, but I know there lot of different styles. I can't find any on ebay today, does anybody have any links where to buy some maybe several different desings. Or maybe I just can't find them on ebay. thanks guys.
ARe these the same ones off of ebay. these are NOT the overlays is that correct? Do you to take your needles out ot put them on? They look really good. Where did you get yours.

Does anyone find that picture hilarious?
You can get them there, I got mine off ebay though. I purchased a firebird bezel, and cut off the edges of the overlay so that only the dials were white. I did not have to remove my needles, but I was very careful not to break them.
It looks awesome
and yes, pictures like that are hilarious

That install guide was for Macewen Guages. They are the only decent overlay out there that you DO NOT have to remove the needles for. The install is much more risky of screwing up if you have to pull the needles.
I would for sure go with Macewen. Here is the link: Macewen
These are quality products and Ryan makes nice matching overlays for shifter, headlights, and HVAC.

The car is NOT on in the day pic, the tach needle was up because I was having issues with the needle rubbing on the overlay, which I fixed by just loosening the screws around the gauges themselves (they were a bit too tight)
As far as installing w/o taking off the needles, you just have to slide them in carefully over the needles, you can bend the indiglo overlay a bit to help you out, little tricky, but it can be done.
