Best way to clean rust off cylinder walls?

I have had my heads off much longer than I planned and now there is a little rust in some of the cylinders. Doesnt look too bad, but I need to clean it before I put the heads back on. Should I just try some WD-40 on a rag or is there something else? Also what should I use to clean the carbon and such that is on top of the pistons? Thanks

carbon isn't a big deal. the rust is. if its surface rust- WD40 and a rag should do it

OK, I found the name of the carbon cleaner... Berryman B-12 chemtool. Can I get this at Autozone, Oreilys, or Advance?

Cool

Do not turn the engine over you don't want the rust to catch a ring! If you see any rust use a Scotchbright pad to clean, Also clean the cylinder dry, if you use any type of lube like WD 40 the particles can wick into the top ring land.... Wipe out the cylinders with a clean lint free rag then use air at a low pressure, then just wipe ( Very Little ) some 30 weight oil in the clyinder so you do not have a dry start condition

As far as carbon, if it is slight, just leave it there, if it is more then slight, leave it there also, after the engine is running, use the Sea Foam method to take care of the top end carbon clean
