best tire pressure?
i have a 94 z28 with stock rims and 255's on the back and 245's on the front. What should the tire pressure be? im most interested in gas mileage and best handling not racing.
thanks

normal MAXIMUM psi for our kind of tires is 44 psi... the sun and driving can change the pressure in your tires by 10 psi... i would lower those QUICK.. before you bubble or blow or something
i keep mine at 33-34 stone cold

Look on the tire.. If its says 40psi and you never use the back seat or haul heavy items them 45-48 is safe. Remember that the road temp plays a huge part in the psi of the tire. If you air the tire up in december in the cold and a few months later when the temp is higher you'll be at an usafe psi in the tire.
I own a Honda Insight and run 50psi. I loose about 5mpg when the pressure is less than 45psi. So I check it often.
Also note the reason the psi increase the MPG is that you have less rolling Resistance and less tire on the road. Which = less traction
Thats why when drag racing or for trucks muddin and rock climbing they run low tire pressure.

If it say max pressure is 40, then you can safely run 45-48?Max pressure on my tires is 44psi.
The only reason you bump up pressure is when are are carrying a heavier load. What you want is the correct pressure for the load you are carrying to create the correct contact patch.
I do agree with the higher pressure causing a decreased contact patch. You don't want that-it's unsafe and wears out the middle of your tires.
