Best "street" tires ?

I'm trying to get more traction but am staying away from Drag Radials as numrous people have told me that if I get caught in a rain storm I'll be in trouble. Not to many years ago I got caught in a rain storm w/slicks. The only thing that stopped me from going thru the front window of a Dry Cleaners was a steel post filled with cement.
My current COPPER tires are usless at low speeds when I put my foot in it.

Firestone Firehawk SZ50's! Cheap, great traction, incredible wet traction, and great to look at too!

bah.... i have a pair of nitto 555R's and they are bald as hell.... can be seen 3rd picture down on my web page. I drove in the pouring rain yesterday, I dont know if anyone lives on long island but it was pretty bad yesterday, but i had no major problems. Althou if i went over 60 everyonce and a while if i hit a puddle on the highway i would shift about a foot over, but that can be avoided by doing the speed limit And as for sidestreets and sub highway driving i was fine, u just cant mash the gas.

I'm on my second set of kumhos on the rear... they are really good tires for the price. When my old michelins I would be slippin and slidin, with these I don't even have to stay that alert when I drive in the rain. Although anything can happen...

I don't need tires now but i was just wondering what the best set would be for all season driving. It snows here and i have eagle HP's and i can't get around when it snows. They are good for the summer but that's about it.

Cool

Heh, my car came with Cooper Cobras too. Man they sucked.

You want FIREHAWK SZ50EP. Best traction, wet or dry, new or bald, $160.

Another vote for Kumhos Ecsta 712's they shed the water very well.

i would say that the kdw's, potenza's, sz-50's, and 712's are all good tires. i don't believe the kd's come in factory tire sizes. the kuhmo 712's are the cheapest by quite a bit. i am not sure what you wanting to spend. most of these tires are for summer use and not for winter. i don't know much about the dunlops so can't help you there. i just purchased a set of toyo proxes t1-s. these don't come in the factory size. they come in 245/45/16 instead of 245/50/16. they are a lower profile tire than the factory tires. i thought the 45's were supposed to be a tad wider than the 50's but my are narrower. anyways i put these tires on and took it for a spin. they did not hook worth a crap. so i figured i would let them break in before i gave my opinion on these tires. i put about 30 miles on them and took them for another test spin. i know they are not broken in yet but i was ready to have more fun. i went out to an open road and got on it going about 5mph and i could not break them loose in first. i was pleased. i have no clue how only 30 miles made a difference but earlier that day i would eat them alive at about half throttle, now they are hooking like they should. they are expensive tires though. many people don't like the looks of the lower profile tire on the camaros and i didn't at first but they are growing on me now. i don't know how but they ride smoother than my factory size tires. however, they are a little louder with the tread pattern at highway speeds but its a pretty cool noise. in the rain they preformed good for me. www.treaddepot.com had the best prices that i could find. good luck with your decision

Nittos dr are fine in the rain! Ive driven in many of downpours and they are fine. And the wet traction is awesome. The only thing that they suck in is snow, but hopefully u wont drive urs in the snow! If u dont want dr's then get the firehawks, the kd's are way too expsensive. But, i highly suggest nittos!

I have a set of michelin(sp?) pilot sport's on my car and I am amazed by the wet traction and the increased handling performance of these tires.
