ive had both the hurst and currently i have the B&M ripper and i love the b&m a lot better! basically the hurst and the B&M feel pretty much the same but what was ghey about the hurst is that the handle has two bolts that hold it to the shifter wheres the b&m is all one solid piece! i would ALWAYS manage to get those stupid bolts loose if i was doing some serious shifting then i had to take it apart and retighten the bolts which became a major PITA so i would say the b&m or the pro5.0... if i had to do it again i think i would give the pro 5.0 a try

Thanks guys you are a big help. im still thinking about the hurst though because i can get it for 120 and i love the chrome stick that it comes with it also has HURST engraved in it its beautiful. but isnt hurst a short-throw shifter. i have heard that the pro 5.0 isnt truly short throw. i dont really want to pay 180 for my shifter thats why im really looking into getting the hurst. i know for a fact it will be 200000x better than the stocker. the throws are just too long and pretty notchy. a lot of you have said that the pro 5.0 is tight when going into gear and stuff and some of the shifters arent as tight. at least i have read that on some of the threads. whre is the cheapest i can buy pro 5.0 or b&m and hurst and the slp is 99.99 plus shipping without the stick or the ****. if i decide to get the hurst i think i will be getting the shifter, chrome stick and the **** for 120 thats the best deal i can find now so i might do that! i just need to get rid of the stocky cuz it kinda sucks

The boot will cover all that up

A wrap or two of electrical tape around the stick will allow the boot to be placed and held down in the desired position by the friction and you'll never see it.

To fix the shifter coming loose all you have to do is put lock tite on the threads of the bolts then i put jam nuts on the back and tightened them too. It has never come loose again after that. I have the hurst, and my friend has the 5.0. We both feel the hurst is better shifting, and looks a lot better too. My friend said he would change his shifter if he could get a hurst cheap but other than that they are both good so he will keep the 5.0 until a deal comes along.

I'll admit, my beloved hurst did come loose once, but the aforementioned loctite took care of it. I also have had an offer from my cousin to trade a 5.0 for my hurst but passed on it.

While your at it get your self a Thandle too, all the old muscle cars have them and it makes your 2-3 4-5 shifts even more precise.

Okay.....someone enlighten me! In another thread, someone posted that the Pro 5.0 isn't a true short throw shifter. If the Pro 5.0 is not a true short throw shifter, how is it regarded as the premiere shifter by a very large portion of our members? I just purchased mine about 2 weeks ago, and I haven't installed it yet, therefore I have no opinions on the throws. I purchased mine because of the high praises it has received on this message board. My buddy has a C5 Vette that has the B&M Ripper, and the throws are incredibly short...that shifter feels awsome! I was under the impression that the Pro 5.0 was supposed to be better than the B&M. Are the throws on the Pro 5.0 not as short as the B&M or what...did I buy the wrong shifter for shorter throws?
