best place to find an ignition hot 12V...

I hooked up my Crane HI-6R and I figured I might as well use the timing retard control that comes with it. It requires it's own 12V switched ignition source and I was wondering what the popular location to tap into one was (from the driver's front of the car neat to the fuse box). I lost my manual, otherwise I'd try to find one there. I'm not that great of an electrician I suppose.

So where have you guys hooked yours up?

just look inside the fuse box cover, it lists the major function of each fuse. i would think the fuel pump or the ECM would work.

or get a check light and see if the empty spots are switched

If you buy they're no-splice harness, it's already there isn't it? I believe it's the red or pink wire on the coil harness that attaches to the Crane box...

There is both switched (IGN) and unswitched (ACCY) 12V power available in your end-of-dash fuse box. The source is a 1/4" spade lug, sunk in a small square hole in the panel, with the markings indicated above. Go to Radio Shack, get a female 1/4" spade connector and crimp/solder it to the wire you want to connect:

Both connections are protected by fuses in the box.

the ACC is a switched source.... i have my coolant fans running off it. and it only turns on with the key... either pull the fuse block, and wire it up to your ignition, or
ACC lead.... or you could just do what i did, run the wire, and wedge the tip of the wire into the socket using the blade of the fuse works for me! for now anyways.... ;-)

There's also an ignition wire under the Fuxe box under the hood by the air intake (Z28). If you slide out the box and flip it over you should be able to splice and sauder into the ignition wire... I did it for my Water Pump... Nice clean and very resourceful.

you know, i tried wiring the fans to that one, and as soon as i hit the key it was shorting out for some reason lol i dont know why, but it works fine without an attachment, i just used the one in cockpit. seems to work for me, i know there are better ways, but this is good for now, so i can focus on other things.
