What kind of mufflers are you guys using on your true dual exaust. Is it very loud, or something you can still listen radio to.

I built a true dual 3" exaust with an x pipe by myself. Cut my exaust before the rear end. Using two bullet mufflers on it now, and my exaust is too loud to even listen the radio to. I was wondering what are the best mufflers to go with to quit down my car, have good flow, be 3"in and out, and at the same the mufflers wouldn't cost too much.

Route 2.5" diameter tube from the end of the mufflers (keep the 3" bullets) to a point that exits straight back (NOT downward). OR get another pair of 2.5" dia. bullets and put them BEHIND the 3"ones. OR if you must have 3'' (550 hp?) get another pair of 3" bullets and run 2 on each side.

 

I don't mind putting an extra set of bullet mufflers, but from what I hear right now with bullet mufflers on is almost the same as with open Hooker Lt's. I got my bullet mufflers from summitracing, and it looks like these mufflers have nothing inside I don't see how that kind of muffler can reduce exaust sound. I am looking running around 400 hp.

I use 3" pipes that dump just before the axle... I use 30" long bullets at the end of the piping. Yes, I said 30" long bullets (from JC Whitney).

My car isn't really that loud at all.. now can I listen to every detail of my radio? No, not when I have the gas mashed... but when I'm cruising it's pretty tame.

Rule of thumb: put the mufflers as far back as possible and use turndowns - they'll tone the sound down some. You'd do better to get the exhaust up and over the axle - there are several people that have accomplished this (I'll be trying it soon with 3" oval piping) I think this would tone the sound done even more. Also, you could use a silencer cone.. that may tone things done but it will be a bit of a restriction obviously.

Summit turbo mufflers... They are like $15 each and will stand up to abuse(Scraping, bumping, potholes, bridges). I'm getting ready to replace mine after almost 2 years of use. $30 every 2 years sounds fine to me

positioning of the exit pipes makes a world of difference...instead of running them towards the ground where the sound can bounce back up to the floorpan, why not make some exit pipes that run out the sides before the tires...should quiet the interior resonance considerably.

The ultimate would be over the axle, but that can get pretty expensive.

 

Going over the axle is too expensive for me. I am considering getting two summit turbo mufflers, $19 a piece 3"in/out, and putting them inline with my bullet mufflers. I don't know what this combination would give to me, but at least it wouldn't be so loud.

The turbo mufflers are really mild when at idle. They won't blow your ears out when you get on it either. I love the way mine sound, sort of like a flowmaster, but not as raspy.

Any sound clips of turbo mufflers in action would help. I already ordered them, if I am not satisfied, I don't loose too much money. I noticed that most guys on the board have bullet mufflers, and I am trying to get something milder. It's not like I didn't want a loud car, but those bullet mufflers don't reduce sound too much.

get twisters, not too loud cruising but loud as hell when you get on it, i switched from bullets and i like the twisters better.

 

Can you specify a part number for the twisters, who sells them, and how much are they
