Headers first after a tune up. Make sure you get long tubes Unless your state has emisions
the differance is night and day.

Welcome to CamaroZ28.com. You should find a large number of helpful, knowledgable people here.

Cold air induction kit first, then cat-back exhaust, throttle body coolant bypass, 1.6X roller rockers, headers, mail order computer tune.

Then determine how far you want to go. You can approach 500HP at the flywheel with porting your stock heads, and a matching cam (and supporting mods, like larger injector and fuel pump, dyno tune, etc.).

Don't forget, all the power in the world will not help you if you can't put it on the pavement. Drivetrain will ned upgrades. You will need a higher stall converter with an A4 (is your car a manual or automatic tranny?). Higher numerical gear ratio will work wonders. Sticky tires, several critical suspension mods (tubular LCA's, LCA relocation brackets, subframe connectors, etc.).

Suggestion - why not add a "signature" with basic info about your car, like year, model, engine, trans and any major mods? You've got most of it covered in your post, but the "signature" field insures that info is in every post.

It will be a lot easier to drop the headers in with the heads off.

Says who? Took me an hour and a half max from pulling my manifolds off to bolting my Y-Pipe to my LT's with the heads on the car.

But, if you do everything at once you'll feel it all that much more.

You'll want to do a CAI and a catback first. Then headers. Then gears and a stall. The heads/cam package should be after you've installed all the other mods I listed. Most cams require a higher stall and gears as well as headers. You can go from 275hp to 475hp pretty easily and without ever touching your bottom end.

and to answer the "headers" question... I'd say go with Pacesetter Coated Longtubes. I was able to get mine with a 3" ypipe all for $495 brand new, that included shipping and all the installation hardware

Ok I'll probably get flamed but here goes.

Does the cat-back make that much difference? What kind of gains does one see?

I've got Mac-mids, through an orp to the stock exhaust. It sounds good. I haven't had it dynoed to see what the power is now.

The first mods on my 94 (car was less than 3 months old) were a Callaway CAI and a Borla catback. Those two together were worth 3/10's in the 1/4-mile. That would indicate about 30HP between the two mods.

Injuneers reply is right on with what I would figure for gains. CAI+Catback= roughly 30hp over stock. A Catback will also benefit other mods you have. I would recommend one. An electric cutout would be a nice addition as well. I plan on installing one between my y-pipe and catback.

Ok, I won't be doing Borlas, too pricey. Do Flowmaster or others do as well?

I was wishing I had an electric cutout when I was cruising in Pigeon Forge last weekend at the Fall Grand Rod Run. ;-)

you can pick up a Magnaflow catback for about $400... IMO just as good as a borla or a corsa for less than half the price
