Best hooking tire for 17X8 rim?

Right now i have 255/45/17 nittos on my car and they are probably the worst tire anyone can buy. $171 a peice too! They are getting worn out and i need a good tire. I can't even go half throttle in first, any little bumps in the road and second won't hook either. If i am driving in the rain i can be at 2k in 4th gear and spin them like they are covered in vaseline. My buddy 97bowtie has 245/50/16 v rated tires and he can even powershift on the 1-2 shift! Its extremely annoying that my car spins as easy as it does.

I am looking to buy street tires. I am not wanting to know what kind of tire. I am wanting to know what size will allow me to hook the best.

Ohhhh K, in that case go with the 315/35/17 nitto drag radial, good traction and good treadwear.

That would probably look like ***, wear out fast and not fit. LOL Thanks for the responses, but i am looking for a tire that will be a good daily drivable tire and i doubt i can get 315's on the front.

yeah, if you put drag radials on the front they would look like *** you retard. Let me explain it again in REAL detail. your not gonna hook on a pep boys radial so forget it. so you put what ever on the front, and a drag radial on the back. You wanted to know what hooked, and if your trying to hook up with your front tires in a f body, than maybe you need to buy a honda. I hope you understand now Prorac1

ive got dunlop sp8000s, not bad, great summer tire. my buddy had bridgestone potenza so3 polepostions, I FREAKING LOVED THEM!!!!!!!! the car gripped like a ********ka!!!! great for handling. you can look into michelen pilots as well. im running 275 in the back and 245s in the front, although you can run 275 up front to but be warned your car will go all over the road if the road has a lot of dips in it. on a 17x8 i think the widest you can go is 255? and hooking up may have to do with your tire pressure as well, the low profile tires have thicker sidewalls. you cant have the best of both worlds. you want to hook up go with 16 inch rims, with 17s you gotta have some sacrifice.
