Best headers for a lowered daily driver

Hey guys,

Its been a while since I had an Lt1, but now am getting one and need some advice.

I had eddy shorty headers and y-pipe on my '94 in the past, with the hooker Catback and CAT!.

I still have the hooker CB from my old car, and would like to use it again. But, I think this time I would like to get some better flowing headers as I have around 450rwhp plans for the car. But I also want to have good ground clerance if possible.

I understand there is way more choices for headers, bot shorty and LT then when I had my Lt1. What do you guy recommend for me? I looking at running Eibach Pro springs, or an equalent drop spring. I will go with LTs if I have to, 'cause I want to make sure my headers are ready for my future plans.

Thanks a lot,

Igor.

Many people will tell you they run LT headers on a lowered car with no problem, but unless you want to constantly worry about your headers draging and avoiding speed bumps like the plague, your gonna need to run shorty or mid length headers.

You would get a few more HP from LT headers, but AS&M or equivalant mid length header would work fine. I run them with my car lowered about an inch and they are wonderful.

Back when I was getting headers, pacesetters were a good deal, but were on back order.

I was kind of thinking of 1 3/4" primaries

AZ Speed and Marine. Nuff said. ZERO ground clearance loss.

Re: Best headers for a lowered daily driver

Im running hotchkis 1" drop springs and pacesetter long tubes. I can go over little speed bumps without having to angle my car, but i havnt tried big ones yet. I just go in the back way to my school. Ive only scraped 2 times while driving, and both times were when i hit unavoidable potholes. Anywho, I would take a picture of my clearence, but my damn friend has had my camera since Easter!

I think anything greater than a 1 inch drop would be too much with long tubes.

I run AS&M. IMO, the best mids and nearly equal to LTs. Same clearance as stock exhaust.

THe more I read, the more I think Kooks LTs, 1 3/4 to 1 7/8s with 3" collectors is the way to go. Ppl. say they have good ground clerance for an LT. I'm looking for a 1" drop max. I had 1.75" and was a bit too much.

TPIS LT's leave plenty of ground clearance. I'm lowered just an inch. and have had no problem getting over speed bumps. They are a little spendy but I ease of installation, spark plug access and ground clearance make it worth it.

Re: Best headers for a lowered daily driver

Car was lowered when I baught it and I recently installed Jet Hot Long Tubes + ORY. I can get around on the highway and stuff fine but cannot go over any sort of speed bump and can't even make it up the driveway anymore.

I'm going to be restoring the car to stock height pretty soon just so I can stop worrying about them all the time.

If you want to see some pictures of the ground clearance you can visit the link below. I'd post the pics here but they are not really 56k friendly:

Re: Best headers for a lowered daily driver

My front end is lowered approx. 1.25" and I really dont have any issues with my Pacesetter LTs. They look low (a little under 3" at the collectors) but I have never scrapped on anything... and I like in Michigan with a lot of speed bumps and $hitty roads.

Re: Best headers for a lowered daily driver

1.25 with LT and usually it isn't an issue...just be careful about speed bumbs and places where like flat parking lot turns into a sharp slope, usually at entrances to places.
