I would think it would take at leaste 2 full days of work, for a first timer.

Re: Lt4 Hot Cam Install Times

Actual install time took a full day but I spent a week taking everything apart, cleaning, replacing things like crankshaft/camshaft seals, and waiting on all the parts to arrive including the pmc being reprogrammed.
Take your time and allow for unforeseen problems that may arise.

Re: Lt4 Hot Cam Install Times

working from 12 to 5 everyday it took me 5 days plus a 1/2 an hr here and there for the next week or so working out bugs or retorqueing things. Just leave your self plenty of time, you wanna think things through and not feel rushed because when u rush u make mistakes and there are few with a cam install that can get u into some trouble

I work on cars for a living and start to finish cam and spring swap it took 13.5hours. This was with a hoist, air tools and have done these before. For the average in the driveway first timer you can surely double that.

My friend and I charge $700 for a cam swap in our garages.. and we're not a shop.. so figure probably $1k in labor from a "shop".. and I use that term loosely.

I did it in a day with a friend. Sun up to sun down in Texas summer is about 14 hours it was just light when we started and just after dark when we were starting the car back up.

good luck!

meangreen... it may sound like a little much $$, but when you figure the time worth of two people working 13 hours, it's actually pretty cheap! I can do it on my car in a much quicker fashion, but I know my car better, and I've got stuff eliminated that would be in the way on a stock car after working on my car for so long now w/ diff. projects... extra clips, sensors, etc, that all take extra time to remove.

It's a nice chunk of cash, but nowhere near as rewarding as working on your own or a good friend's car (ie, track buddy)

Thats for sure.... but nothing is free! Bring on the beer and burgers. Nothing like eating a burger with a grease covered hand. LOL
