Best Cam For Stock Convertor?
Best Cam For Stock Convertor?
I’ve got a 94 Z28(mostly stock) and it’s starting to drop oil pressure so this winter I was planning on doing a rebuild on it. I was gonna go with a 383 kit, and check out re-doing the heads. That leaves me with one big thing, the cam. I want to keep the stock converter and not necessarily break the bank. But I’d still like something that would run and sound good.
im wondering what ya’ll would recommend for what I’m planning on doing. Thanks in advance.

Re: Best Cam For Stock Convertor?
Typically a more aggressive camshaft will improve peak torque, but raise the RPM that occurs to a higher RPM. Hence the stock stall converter will not likely allow the engine to reach that RPM at launch. You might be leaving some of your gains on the table, depending how aggressive the cam is.

Re: Best Cam For Stock Convertor?
Ask the person who's doing the head work. If it’s someone like Lloyd Elliot, he can point you in the right direction. The cam has to support the head work. But you also want it to support the stock converter. The person porting the heads would be the better source of meeting the possibly conflicting requirements between the heads and converter.
Re: Best Cam For Stock Convertor?
OP, as noted, contact Lloyd Elliot for head work and a cam that is friendly with the stock converter
With that said, since the engine will be out...the converter is right there. The Hughes 2200 stall for the 4L60E would be VERY good and still drive like stock but allow the cam to do what it wants. IIRC when I bought my Hughes is was about $400 ish
