Re: Best $29.00 Ever Spent

I don't think it is too loud. The first time I drove outta the exhaust shop, they told me not to get arrested and I wasn't used to it. It seemed insanely loud to me. After that, it sounds loud to me but Its very tolerable.

I get compliments on the sound of my car all the time whether the cutout is opened or closed but, when i do a 1st gear driveby with the cutout open, its enough to turn anyones head plus i set off alarms.
Ive even made small kids cry in fear (Didnt particularly feel good about that but it is funny in a way )

Re: Best $29.00 Ever Spent

I agree with this post 100%! The $30.00 cutout is my favorite mod for the LT1. PERIOD.

Before I opened my Flowtech cutout, my stock internal '95 Z28 had Mac mid-length headers/Y-pipe, 3" Random Tech highflow cat, & a 3" Flowmaster AT cat-back...Had a nice tone, but was VERY quiet and just didn't sound the least bit aggressive at all. I was really dissapointed in the overall sound...

Now, with the cutout open, it sounds 10x louder at any rpm...I just can't believe how deep/bassy the car is now...I haven't heard an LT1 sound better or meaner than this. I've actually got used to the volume though and wouldn't mind it a little louder if you can believe that?

BTW, to the guy who started this thread...Are you running a cat or an offroad pipe with your single cat '94? Just curious because I'm thinking about removing the cat on mine...

Currently I'm running a single cat after the y-pipe that came with the MAC headers. I dunno if it would sound any better with/without a cat but for now I'm so pleased I'm not changing anything.

I was worried that the sound would be annoying but its unbelievable. I dunno if others have similar great results but with my current exhaust setup, it sounds amazing. Also, I picked up my cutout from a local speed shop for 29 bucks including tax! Great price, great sound, great mod. Just my .02
Agreed, it is definitely one of the cheapest ways to gain proven horsepower at the rear wheels and it adds alot of aggressiveness to the exhaust tone.

$25 cutout > $800 CMMG or whatever

Only thing that beat this was after I had my cam installed I was so dissapointed. Ran 14.0 all night at the track. Turned out I had 2 bad plugs. That was the best $10 ever spent.

Yeah, I'm glad the Borla was already on my car when I bought it or else I'd feel like I had wasted all that money. And the cutout continues to reign supreme

Is this cutout legal to have in California? Anyone know? Also, at what point in the exhaust system do you install it? Before/after the cat?

You have 1 or 2 cats? I know the cats will kill your flow, but check local laws. As bad as Cali is, I would assume you would fail visual, even if they are closed. In front of the cats if you have them. Trying to maximize flow.

I have an ORY so I put a sinlge cutout just before it goes over the axle. Not as loud as putting it up front, but still gets good power.

Dual cutouts at the front are just as bad as open headers.

I got the single cat. Think you answered my question though. Sucks that I cant even have a closed cutout without removing it b4 every inspection. If I were going to go thru that trouble Id just remove the cat all together and reinstall for the smog police. Before long there will be a device to smog farts here in Cali. lol

I made a little kid **** his pants at the track once. I didn't know about until a couple of days later when a friend told that when I started my car a little kid and his mom happened to walk behind my car the very second I started it. I guess It scared the crap out of him so much he pissed his pants.
I don't know if any of this is true because I didn't see it a friend did, but I wish I would've seen the look on his face.

Also I've been thinking about getting a cut-out to bypass my loudmouth. Should I put one right before the resonator or should I put two of them in the y-pipe?

I can't see the point of using it for driving around town which is all I do. But I still have one, just never installed it.

With a cam and idle at 650, its awesome at the stop light. But you really can't get on it too much without drawing attention.
