bent valve? need suggestions....
Hey all, at first I thought I broke another valvespring (my last topic said I did) and Now when I get the car back and take off the valvecovers there are no broken valvesprings, so I think I got valveslap...
Would roller rockers coming loose slap valves? I was driving after readjusting them but had to drive 300 miles (not a good idea) and one came loose, next thing I know I am at 0 rpms from 1800rpms and no power steering...
Heads coming off as soon as possible, and new (dual coil!) valvesprings will be milled into the heads, hopefully some P&P while I got the heads off too...
any other ideas as to what could have caused it to not start and die instantly w/ a strange clunking sound? It sounded very familiar to valveslap as I have heard it before tho, I will say that.

IMO a loose rocker would work opposite. It would prevent the valve from opening all the way and would NOT cause valve slap. Dont forget, the springs are forcing that valve closed, so if the rocker is loose and their is less load on the valve, those springs should not have a problem pulling that valve up.
As far as your problem, I dunno. Make sure all your keepers are in place
, and that all the valves are indeed still up in the heads.

You need to check all your valvetrain clearances. Did you check piston to valve clearance??? If so, what were your findings?
Here's a decent article on valvetrain and things to check when setting everything up.

Could be your pushrods length are wrong. If too short, that will cause the rockers to rest on the retainers. Check your valvetrain geometry carefully. A bent valve could do a lot of damage. Hopefully, your pistons are ok.
Good luck.

mindgame, thanks a bunch for that link, when the heads come off I will DOUBLE check the machine shop after I get the heads back to check everything there. what upsets me is I had a machine shop set up the heads the first time telling me they checked everything like that......
maybe my next machinist should just be Lloyd Elliot
may be gettin an email Lloyd, tired of it being done wrong!
The reason I thought it was a loose rocker that caused my problem is because I heard one tapping loose before this happened, right after readjusting the rr's.... what would a collapsed lifter do to my geometry? to the car?
thanks again
