Bench shifting new tranny

Question Bench shifting new tranny

I just currently purchased a used t56 tranny off ebay. I just tried bench shifting it dry with no fluid to make sure all the gears were legit. It goes smoothly into all the gears but does not seem to go into reverse. Could this just be because it is dry and not in the car?

Are you having a problem moving the shift lever to the right, to get into the "reverse" slot? There is a solenoid that blocks reverse. I think without power it blocks the lever. Try unbolting the reverse lockout solenoid:

ya that was the problem i was having. Thats what i figured becasue it shifts smoothly into all of the other gears ill try unbolting that and see what happens. Thanks i sppreciate the help
