i have been trying to figure out some ticking lately and got my valves adjusted thinking it was just a rocker adjustment. turns out that a couple of my rockers had been way overtightened by a previous friend of mine. my engine guy said there were at about 2 1/2 turns wheres they usually try to keep them about 1/2 to 3/4. even though they are now properly adjusted, i've still got some ticking that's louder than it should be when cold, but it quiets down to almost nothing when warmed up. i decided to have all new lifters put on it in hopes that it's just a spring that's gotten damaged from being that tight. does anyone think there's a good chance that i've got any other damage as well? (i.e. piston damage, etc) from being that tight? it's not smoking at all and i've got good oil pressure. i've only run the motor about 5,000 miles since it was all rebuilt.

probably just your lifters, 1 or 2 my stock lifters have a little tick when cold due to them being compressed when the motor is shut off and sits for a while then they need to be pumped back up and everything is all quite and woking well...

Also don't blame your friend, it could have been a similar situation when he adjusted then and they were not fully pumped up...

thanks for the reply....i'm glad that you dont' think the damage is any deeper. i should have the new lifters in by friday and i'm anxious to see if the noise is gone. i just hate that i've been riding around with that much pressure on the internals.
