Balancer stuck?

How is it attached? I removed the 3 bolts holding it on. The bolt in the crank is holding the hub on, correct? It looked pretty rusty around where the balancer might slip over the hub. How tight is the tolerance on the hub to balancer? My haynes book says nothing (puller) is needed to remove. I know the hub is an interference fit. Any help?

Re: Balancer stuck?

you will probably need a puller as the balancer tends to rust itself onto the hub.

Re: Balancer stuck?

I picked up a THREE PRONGED pulley remover for 15$ at the local parts store.
I was in the same predicament as you, its not easy to get off without the puller.

Re: Balancer stuck?

I banged the hell out of it, nicely of course, with a rubber hammer and later a steel hammer, hoping to shock it or break the rust seal on it, but even with all the drive accessories off it is still very hard to get a decent swing at the damn thing It is getting cold here in wisconsin so maybe I'll just wait till spring. I'll be buying a new balancer anyhow but would like to get a few bucks for my opti as it is a 94 non vented and only has 30,000 miles on it. I'll be upgrading to use a lt4 extreme duty kit and a delteq on top of that. I already have the 95 opti so I was hoping to get that stuff off to help offset the cost of all my other junk!! thanks for the reply
