Balancer removal

Car died on me yesterday so I needed to replcae my opti and the W/P. I am doing this in my parents garage is there a way to get the balancer off with no air. I have the belt on and it just keeps spinning the engine over?

Also where can I buy and opti seal or gasket the store I went to didnt have them?

I used and regular 3-bolt harmonic puller but try to use a flat head on main bolt of puller and some round steel stock about 3/8 dia, and 3-4 " long, remove hub bolt and slide in stock and install puller, use a long rachet or breaker bar and long flat screwdriver inbetween pully bolts to stop pully from spinning, if your going to replace timing cover seals then you can use some heat on the hub to expand it

You only need to remove the pulley (not the hub) to replace the optispark. Stick a bar through the spokes of the pulley and wedge the other end on something safe that won't break. That will keep the crank from moving with an A4.

This thread will answer most your questions. BTW, Shoebox, you have a ton
of posts on here, WHO needs to be contacted to make this a sticky? I think
its definately WORTH it, it would help cut down on all these posts that could
be answered by one single post. If its prefered to post the text locally, so
that readers dont have to visit the Impala SS forum, I could add it to this
thread I created.

FAQ's don't work..... we have one on the Wheels and Tires forum, and no one reads it. Ditto with the Drivetrain forum. Pretty soon you'd have the whole topic listing being "stickies". Most of the questions could be answered by a "search", but no one tries that either.

Yeah, stickies are a blight, IMO.

Thats unfortunate .. its been a GREAT help on the Impala forum with over
7000 reads and less questions. I noticed that my sticky there is mentioned
on this forum, but yes, people dont use the search feature.

I think that the title covers a lot of ground though ..... its up to you.

If you want to debate how the boards are organized and run, PLEASE don't do it in the middle of someone's thread. There is a forum for "Site help and suggestions". PLEASE use it if you feel the need.
