Balancer hub pulling problem.
So I finally get the pulley off of the hub with the balancer removal kit, then I don't have the bolts in the kit that fit the hub. I bought M12x1.75 bolts and nuts so I can have a good bite to remove the hub, but when I go to thread them into the hub it just eats the threads off! BTW Hardened steel bolts<rusted iron threads if anyone didn't know.
So what do I do? The stock bolts won't reach when I use the puller and the 3-jaw puller I have I don't think would be strong enough...any ideas?

Re: Balancer hub pulling problem.
I used a hub puller specifically for an LT1 motor. It has different sized center rods, and is a 3 jaw puller designed to fit in the grooves of the hub.
I borrowed it from a friend who bought it off of the Snap On truck. Dunno where you could buy it locally?
Thomas.

Re: Balancer hub pulling problem.
i just got threw with mine i had a hard time to i just put 3 bolts in the holes put nuts on them-main problem take bolt out of crank get a long small bolt about the size of a water pump bolt stick it into the hole the crank bolt came out of dont thread it get one just smaller and use the pully to press agains the bolt or what ever u use (dont acually use the water pump bolt it will get damaged) u might have to use a bar on the end of a ratchet and just keep tighting the pully puller should come off( o and dont use a beveld tip on the puller
Re: Balancer hub pulling problem.
I got an assortment of grade 8 bolts that thread into the crank snout and use them them to push against. I use a standard puller, but had to widen the slots slightly with a dremel to get the bolts through that thread into the hub. I have also used bolts that go through the hub with washers on the back, and that method works OK too. For putting it back on, I use hardened threaded rod threaded into the crank shout with a thrust bearing and washers pushed by tightening a nut.
