Bad PCM?

My '93 Formula seems to have some gremlins that I cant seem to figure out. (go figure, huh?) It's an M6 car with bolt ons. The problem Im having is that the car stumbles at part throttle most of the time, and in the middle of the RPM band. I first thought it may be TPS issues. I replaced the sensor, and got one of those TPS signal enhancers for it. The enhances seemed to help fatten up the mid range some. The car ran good for about a week and stated acted up again. I had an exhaust leak , and decided to weld it up to see if that solved the problem, and id didn't. It seems like the card runs well when I reset the computer, and then for a week after that, then the problem returns. I don't believe that it's spark plugs. It had fouled plugs on it when I bought it, and you couldn't give it more than half throttle in any gear without it falling flat on it's face. The car runs well at wide open throttle. The responsiveness is also always better rught after the cpu reset. I've heard some stories about the PCM going bad, but am not sure if this is my problem. I will probeably have PCM for less burn a new one for me, but was wondering what everyone else thought about this. Any ideas or suggestions would be greatly appriciated.

Thanks
Brandon

Re: Bad PCM?

Sounds like it might be O2 sensor problems - or some condition like exhaust leaks and/or misfires that cause the engine to run rich. If the PCM is getting bad info from the O2 sensors, its going to start changing the long term fuel corrections (BLM's) - in this case probably adding fuel the engine doesn't need. When you "clear" the PCM, you reset the BLM's to "0%" correction, and the rich condition goes away temporarily. Just one possible scenario.

Re: Bad PCM?

That makes sense. Ever sense it has got cold here I occasionally get a check engine light that will only stay on for a few seconds and then it goes away. Idle seems to be kinda high and irratic when this happens. I thought the light may be 02's but have not had the code pulled yet.

Thanks
